There is no question about it, and I’m here to prove it.
We think of a hero as a person that has already achieved their ultimate goal. Just look at all the incredible stories that surround us, be it in books, movies, or history. We deem these humans as role models to aspire to.
And I’m the first guy that will know one or a hundred stories about these heroes. From the fictional to those drawn from history. But today we are doing something completely different.
I want you to think of a hero not in the way of those who have already completed the hero’s journey, but those who are walking that challenging path.
As you know a hero doesn’t start with the ultimate power to overcome all of his or her foes. No, they have to go on the journey to learn about it, to unearth those qualities buried deep within themselves to overcome the odds that life is throwing at them.
And I’m not talking about superpowers here, well, you can call them that if it empowers you. But most of the time, only those fictional heroes have superpowers.
The real ones have trained long hours to hone their skills. They have worked hard to sharpen their minds to be ready for the tasks ahead of them.
It’s a long and arduous process, they fail many times, but they keep learning from each experience. They dust off each time they fall and keep going because they stay true to their hearts.
It’s not an easy task; you need a lot of courage.
You may be nodding right now, thinking of a couple of them that you may know. Perhaps you admire a couple of people and follow their every move to see if some of that magic can inspire you to reach the same heights.
But instead of thinking about them, I want you to look at your life. And this time I’m not talking just about business, I’m talking about your whole life.
Remember those times when you were a kid, and you did something that amazed even the grown-ups around you. Think about those times when you were young and inexperienced, but you still dared to press on and have experiences even when you didn’t know all that much about the world.
Think of those times when you had already accumulated a couple of battle scars, they are signs that the lessons were hard, but they have shaped you into who you are right now.
Now that those memories are a bit fresher within your mind, I want you to look at them in the context of the hero’s journey. I want you to see how those experiences have transformed you from someone discovering the world into someone who is walking the hero’s path.
You may be surprised. But it’s the truth; you chose your hero’s journey.
Whenever you watch a movie or read a new book and find that one of those characters speak straight to you. That’s because you recognize your journey within that character’s world.
That magical moment when you look at Batman, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, Frodo, Katniss Everdeen, or any other hero or heroine you like and feel empowered, it’s not about those characters, it’s about you.
The magic resides inside of you, at all times. It may be difficult to recognize. I’m the first to accept that I fail to see it within myself more often than not. But it is there.
And I know you are reading this because you are already on your journey. If you are like me, probably this text found you at the right time to remind you why you are doing this.
You may be building a business from scratch or trying to achieve something that seems distant and impossible.
But believe me, if you follow your heart and are willing to keep going forward even in the face of the odds are stacked against you, you will soon be among the heroes you admire.
The path lies ahead of you, are you willing to take it?
