One of the best things that have ever happened to me as an independent business owner is to surround me with people that are smarter than me. People who have helped me over the years to improve my craft, as a business owner and to become a better person all around.
I’m quite happy to call them my friends and be able to share ideas and create amazing projects with them.
One of those fantastic friends is Sandi Amorim, she has been my coach and friend for a long time now, and I still remember most of our conversations, since I learn a ton from each one of them.
Among those fantastic conversations comes one of the best tips that have helped me over the years, and I want to share them with you.
It’s to follow the energy.
It may sound a bit “woo-woo,” and maybe, it is. But the moment Sandi shared with me that powerful concept, my whole business changed.
I went from struggling as a freelancer to finding my audience and working on amazing projects.
And you may be wondering, “That’s all well and good Alex, but what does it mean?”
Let me give you an example.
I want you to think about your favorite food, that dish that you just love to eat and could have it daily. I want you to focus clearly on the taste, even better if you remember the last time you ate it. How do you feel?
If you are like me, you probably feel a little bit hungry. But going past the desire to eat that savory dish, you are probably feeling in a better mood, you may have remembered some of the positive things that had happened when you had this particular meal.
It fills you with positive energy.
Now I want you to think about a successful moment in your life, it can be anything. Getting a good client, your first paycheck, that time you bought that item you love, anything works.
This time, I want you to notice how you feel. Take the time to see how your body reacts to this thought, how it makes you feel better.
What you are doing right now is feeling that energy I’m talking about. It’s nothing otherworldly or “woo-woo,” it’s all about feeling good in your body.
Now, following the energy means keeping this attention as best as you can while you are working. Notice when you feel like this when you work on a project, or perhaps when you talk to a possible client or business partner. When you feel your body align and leaning forwards, with this desire to keep going, you are following the energy.
If you take the time to practice this constant awareness of your body, you will start to notice how your life and business moves in the right direction at the same time you will dodge things that don’t align with you or your values.
It may take you some time to hone your senses, but once you do, believe me, you will be grateful you started practicing.
